Surgically Clean Air Improves the Air in the Gross Anatomy Labs beyond Expectations

Client

The University of Detroit Mercy School of Dentistry is a leader in advancing health in a diverse and global society. They offer an extensive academic program in Dentists, Hygienists, Dental Surgeons, and a highly respected Continuing Education curriculum. The School of Dentistry is 1 of 7 colleges under the mercy umbrella, and they operate within a stand-alone 250,000 square foot facility.

Client need

The University’s Gross Anatomy Labs are used by students in practical studies involving the use of cadavers (deceased human bodies). The corpses are preserved using very odorous chemicals that create a pungent smell in the air which can be pretty overwhelming for the students and professors that spend hours in these labs. The university sought a natural solution to an airborne problem that has plagued Gross Anatomy Labs for decades.

Surgically Clean Air solution

The University purchased 4 large commercial-grade Surgically Clean Air purifiers in their 3000 square foot gross anatomy lab to combat formaldehyde odours from the 25 cadavers.

Results

Each Surgically Clean Air provided 1 air change per hour, so collectively the four (4) purifiers could provide 4 complete air changes per hour. Literally, on the first day of use, the students and staff were amazed on much the odour was reduced. Professors that have worked in the medical education industry for their entire careers had never experienced such fresh, clean air in a Gross Academy lab ever.
