“Many doctors, assistants and professors came to find me to comment how impressive the air quality was in the gross lab. Mike Doyle had said that it is not uncommon for someone to pass-out or have to leave the lab due to the impact of the smell — we had no such happenings with the SCA system in place!”
– Mike Doyle Director of the Gross Anatomy Lab
Surgically Clean Air Makes an Impressive Impact in Air Health in Gross Anatomy Labs andan Emergency Covid Centre
Tufts University School of Dental Medicine offers one of the most forward-looking educational environments in dental medicine in the United States. Since its founding in 1868, Tufts Dental School has been committed to excellence in education, research, patient care and community service.
The University’s Gross Anatomy Labs are used by students in practical studies involving the use of cadavers (deceased human bodies). The cadavers are preserved using very odoros chemicals that create a pungent smell in the air which can be pretty overwhelming for the students and professors that spend hours in these labs. For decades, the university sought a real solution to an airborne problem-plagued these older Gross Anatomy Labs.
In 2017 Tufts University initially purchased large commercial grade Surgically Clean Air purifiers in their gross anatomy lab to combat formaldehyde odours from the cadavers.
The Surgically Clean Air purifiers created a healthier learning environment for the students and the teaching staff. Each unit was able to provide 1 air change per hour, so collectively, the purifiers could provide multiple complete air changes per hour. Students and staff immediately noticed how much healthier the laboratory air was once the purifiers were turned on.
In 2018, Tufts was so pleased with their initial Surgically Clean Air commercial air purifiers that when they completed building a second brand new gross anatomy lab for their dental and medical students, they insisted on the fully updated state of the art technology and design, including the use of more Surgically Clean Air units.
Continuing their orders with Surgically Clean Air, Tufts added Surgically Clean Air Jades to the Covid Emergency Centre they built-in 2020. The 64 square foot isolation room(s) were used to isolate any student or staff member suspected of having Covid-19 while they were being tested.
